Wrongful Death Archives

The Dangers Of Backyard Swimming Pools

The Consumer Product Safety Commission released a report last week that contained important safety items for people to bear in mind regarding swimming pools and spas. Young children, particularly those between the ages of 1 and 4, are more likely to die of drowning than any other form of unintentional death. Drowning statistics are even more disturbing for African-American and Hispanic children, according to CPSC Chairman Inez Tenenbaum. The report serves as a good safety reminder to those whose children will be exposed to pools, spas, or open water during the warm summer months. Drowning is an ever present danger for children. You must take steps to protect your children before allowing them access to these dangers.

After losing her husband unexpectedly and tragically, a woman in Illinois wanted answers. He was alone at work when he was killed, and his wife wanted to know what happened that night and who was responsible for his death. In order to do this, she filed a wrongful death lawsuit so that the conditions at the site could be explored and investigated thoroughly.

Illinois DUI Offender in Fatal Accident Given Unusual Sentence

Last summer, a man from East Peoria ran into a motorcycle with his car, killing the rider of the motorcycle. The driver of the car was found to have marijuana in his system at the time of the accident. A judge recently sentenced the man to four years probation for the incident. The driver will have to serve 180 days in jail after completing an intense private drug treatment program that lasts for one year. The judge explained his decision by citing the driver's diagnosis for hypoglycemia, which may have played a role in the reason why the man lost control of his car and crashed into the motorcyclist. The driver's defense attorney argued that his client had low blood sugar, leading to an apparent blackout.
